We’ve done it! We’ve beat the final boss! Actually, I didn’t expect it to be so short to be honest. I thought it’s going to be another multi-hour adventure like we had with Gonarch. So it was a little bit anticlimactic, but still, it was very, very cool.
The whole experience was super cool, I’m really glad I played this game. It was amazing seeing the good old Black Mesa in such detail and with a completely overhauled combat. But once we’ve got to Xen, that’s when it became a completely different game to me. In the original game, Xen felt more like an afterthought. But here, it was the greatest experience of the whole game. At least, on my opinion. I’m really glad I’ve waited for the devs to finish it before trying out the game.
Black Mesa does have a lot of performance issues though. My PC was struggling to run it, constantly dropping the FPS and crashing sometimes, or even giving me nausea because of frame stutters. But we managed to mostly figure it out about half-way through the game.
And regardless of the performance issues, I would still highly recommend this game. It was just great. If you’ve never played Half-Life, I would probably still recommend to play the original one first, just to see the difference, but definitely to try Black Mesa, it’s a whole new experience.
