This time we finished the official remake of King’s Quest 1, the EGA (SCI) version from 1990. And, yeah, it was the same game, but different. And even though it had better graphics and proper music, I think I still prefer the original one. I don’t know, it just had it’s own charm to it.
But still, I really enjoyed this remake. The music was nice, better graphics allowed for some funny animations. End even though the game now had mouse support, I can’t call it a point-and-click game yet. Mouse was used only for movement (which was a hit and miss sometimes), and to describe some objects that you can see (which again, sometimes wasn’t working out as well as it should). For actual interaction we still had to use the text input.
We also managed to solve some of the puzzles that we couldn’t figure out last time, and our playthrough was pretty different because of that. We figured out the woodcutter’s puzzle (I can’t believe how easy it was); We made the leprechauns dance (which was hilarious); We correctly guessed the gnome’s name and found a different way to the top of the mountain. There were still a couple of puzzles left that we couldn’t figure out. Like what to do with the golden egg and the slingshot, or the walnut….
We’ll see if we can figure that out next Friday in our playthrough of a fan-made remake of the game released by AGD Interactive.
