[2024-04-19] Dreamfall Chapters — Part 1

This time we started a new game, Dreamfall Chapters, which is a third and final game in The Longest Journey series. And looks like this game continues the story of the previous game right from where we finished. And we’re not at a very good start already. This game, for some weird reason, doesn’t want to be streamed. I had a ton of technical difficulties before and during the last stream. The game outputs the sound to wherever it wants to, everything but the game itself becomes frozen as soon as you start it, the game is not performing well… It’s weird. Hopefully I can solve these issues before the next stream though.

But okay, back to the game itself and the story (spoilers below).

So if the last game tried to kill EVERY important character, looks like this one tries its best to resurrect every killed character. By whatever means possible, logical or not, bullshit or not. That's my opinion so far.

So April Rayan is dead. But reborn? IDK. They only showed her funeral and then a baby was born in a house that looks exactly like the Elderly April's house from the first game. And some flashing lights. I guess we'll see.

Zoë Castillo is not dead, but was trapped in the Storytime while still being in a coma. And looks like people who use the Dreamer now get trapped here and have nightmares, so she was running around rescuing them for nine months. And then she decides that that's enough and wakes up. Great. But now she's amnesiac and can't remember what happened.

Kian Alvane is not dead, but is supposed to be executed soon. But (surprise-surprise), gets rescued by the rebels, who should've been dead.

Reza is not dead, and he's not a doppelganger like the previous game tried to tell us, looks like that was just Zoë's comatose imagination 🙄.

Damien apparently is not dead, but got forced to take the blame for the WATIcorp doings of the previous game. Okay.

But Liv is dead. Okay, at least one killed character didn't get magically resurrected 🙄.

So yeah, I’m not sure what to think about this game and it’s story so far. It’s been weird, very weird, especially after the second game’s ending. And so far it feels a little sloppy and slow. We’re running around town, talking about politics. Seems like that’s the focus of the game so far for some weird reason, politics talks about a town that we’ve just spawned into, with no real politics details. Just mentions and shouts everywhere like “vote for this one”, “vote for that one”, with no concrete information of story about the candidates so far. I don’t know, seems weird.

So far I still have mixed feelings about this game. But we’ll see where it leads to, next Friday.
