We started a new game on the yesterday’s Gaming Friday stream: Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
And my god it’s amazing!
I did hear about this game a lot and I think I did watch a part of the playthrough about 10 years ago. But I never expected it to be so exciting when I actually started playing.
They say it’s not necessary to play the original The Longest Journey from 1999 to understand the story since you play as a new character, Zoë Castillo, and long after the events of the original game (looks like 10 years past). But I strongly disagree. I’m so happy I finished the original game before starting this one. Like Charlie said in game, it does feel like a family reunion. All the familiar characters are back, the old locations… I’m getting goosebumps all the time when I see a familiar building that we saw as a background in the old point-and-click game now in full 3D! And the story, it’s definitely very tightly intertwined with the story of the original game.
So right from the start, looks like Zoë got involved in a big conspiracy (following April footsteps eh?). Our friend Reza is missing, there was a dead body in his apartment, somebody tried to kill us… A lot of action.
But we didn’t see much of Arcadia until later into the game. We did explore Stark a bit though. We even managed to visit the old familiar places in Newport, and it was sad what this place has become (also, I wish I didn’t eavesdrop the conversation between the little homeless girl and her dad, still can’t get it our of my head). We met the old friends of April: Charlie and Emma, and they shared their side of April’s story.
We almost got caught up with Reza, following his footsteps in Newport, but we made a deal with the wrong people (or the right people, depending on how you look at it) and somehow they forced us to shift to Arcadia (yay, finally!). And this is where we are now, in good-old Journeyman Inn, Marcuria. And it’s sooo beautiful!
I’m so looking forward to the next Gaming Friday, I’m very excited to play this game more, explore Marcuria, find April… This game is amazing!
